Creative Design Labs
The Creative Technology Sessions are structured to allow students to explore their own creativity while reinforcing STEM, ELA and Design concepts for digital and/or physical products. We will utilize graphic design software for digital design Creative Labs, and various artistic mediums for the physical art Creative Labs.
Students are encouraged to sign up for the Creative Writing Sessions as a 1st-Step Lab, prior to other Labs that involve implementing ELA writing skills. (Recommended but not required). Students may also elect to take a Creative Writing Session in conjunction with Digital Design Lab and Social Media Marketing Lab, since each lab builds on the previous one to gain an overall knowledge.
What to Expect: We have successfully completed the processes we teach many times and are confident in our abilities to help students grow, learn, and move ahead with the tools they need. Our labs reinforce what students are learning in the classroom to help them better understand creative writing (ELA), science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), as it applies to design and art. We also introduce business concepts like cost analysis (cost of goods created), profit margins (sale price minus the cost of goods), market research to learn how to price products, and other basic math concepts as they apply to physical and digital products.
Digital Art (Web) sessions will utilize graphic design software to create art for web sites, and mobile apps, like buttons, icons, characters, and other graphics, and explore math and science in product photography and social media marketing. We will reinforce STEM concepts of fractions, the grid (x/y axis), dimensions, ratios, form & shapes, fonts, color and balance, as well introduce design concepts. We will also explore tools available through AI to assist (ethically) in creating these components.
In the Digital Art (Printable) sessions, students will utilize graphic software to create art for printable items, like greeting cards, invitations, T-shirts, mugs, canvas bags, signs, banners, and more! They will learn STEM concepts as they apply to digital art, like dimensions, fractions, color balance, ratios, form & shapes, font picas and points, and the 2/3 rule for balance, and the use of pixel measurement, as well as other design concepts. We will also explore tools available through AI to ethically assist in creating these components.
For physical Wearable and Displayable Art products, students are introduced to various artistic mediums, like polymer clay, acrylic paints, mica powder, artist ink, various types of beads and wire/metals, and other materials for creating jewelry, architecture replicas, wall hangings, ornaments, and other tangible art. We will reinforce STEM concepts of, size (WxHxD), dimensions, ratios, blending, various geometric form & shapes, fractions, basic math, and balance & integrity of physical products, and other design concepts, while creating unique, one-of-a-kind designs they can wear themselves or give as gifts.
